Learn The Ancient Art of Egg Tempera Painting with Bethany
Saturday 9th July 2022

The Liss Triangle Centre
Explore the ancient technique of egg tempera painting. Participants will learn how to make paints from pigment and egg yolk to use in the session. They will create their own egg tempera paintings on gesso board, using the traditional painting techniques of cross hatching and glazing that were applied by the old masters. This workshop is suitable for beginners and more advanced learners new to egg tempera.
Egg tempera dates back to the 1st century AD, it was used in early Christian and Byzantine icon painting and was popular during the early Renaissance period. Used by artists such as Fra Angelico, Botticelli and Mantegna, it was the primary method of painting until around 1500. Today, egg tempera is becoming increasingly appreciated for its remarkable qualities of luminosity and durability.

There is an additional materials cost of £9.50 payable to Bethany on the day.

There will be three in person Art Classes this summer on Wednesday 3rd, 10th and 17th August, 2pm-4pm at East Oakley Village Hall. You can book for one, two or all three sessions. Please pre-book your place. Numbers will be limited to 20 people a session, so please book early to avoid disappointment. You can pay online or by cheque.
1 session £9.60
2 sessions £18.90
3 sessions £28.20
The theme of the sessions will be ‘countryside’ and there will be a mix of demonstrations and one to one tuition. You are also welcome to come along and free paint, bringing your own subject.
I will be demonstrating an acrylic and mixed media painting of a country scene over the three sessions. Looking at colour, and various painting techniques. If you would like a reference photo/materials list so that you can paint along with me please let me know and these will be emailed to you one week before the first session.
